It was formed by the gradual collapse of cave roofs. In this wooded valley are the springs of the Velika Ljubljanica, which joins the Mala Ljubljanica from Močilnik in Verd. There are a number of springs in the valley: Pod skalco, Pod Orehom, Malo okence, Veliko okence. In the19th century there were more than 10 water powered sawmills operating in the valley.
