Eco-museum of the Pivka intermittent lakes

Eco-museum of the Pivka intermittent lakes is a story about water in the Karst landscape of the upper Pivka Basin.

A unique geological structure in the area in relation to the unevenly distributed precipitation is the cause behind the fluctuation of the water levels of the Karst groundwater. At the occurrence of high water levels, there are as many as seventeen intermittent lakes in the valley. If you want to learn how they occur you have to turn a special millwheel. The presentation of individual lakes also includes the everyday life of local population in the area where at one time there is too much water and at another too little. The models of the most important living environments (wet and dry meadows, scrub land, forests and caves) also include presentations of rich flora and fauna of the Pivka Basin.
